I still-hunted my way to my Pennsylvania firearms buck this year. But the hunt didn't begin on the morning of December 7. It began nine months earlier on March 13. That was the day I took a hike to look for shed antlers. Although I didn't find any antlers that day, I did find the spot where I'd kill my next buck nine months later on a classic still-hunt.

My December 13 column in the Jamestown Gazette, "Nine Months to a Buck," is a lesson to take every opportunity you can to head to the woods. You might learn something that will lead you to your next buck.
