Shots At Whitetails

Some people are very quick to take up regular arguments with hunters. They seem to enjoy pronouncing certain hunting practices as unethical, without ever giving them careful, informed thought.

One such topic is ethical shots, and whether we should shoot at running deer and bedded deer. Both are proclaimed WRONG for a variety of reasons. The truth about both is found in what you're about to read. CLICK HERE for "Shots at Whitetails" in the Jamestown Gazette.

A word about the buck pictured. This was taken a long time ago. It was a one-antlered spike, and I remember my daughter asking me to "shoot a unicorn." I never thought much about what she had against unicorns, and I might have told her they were not in season. But this is what I ended up shooting. It was on a flat-out run and it was exciting, but I’d much rather shoot a buck in his bed.
