Dad's Last Deer Hunt

How long do you expect to keep hunting? My bucket list includes killing a deer or a gobbler when I'm 90. I don't know if that's possible or not, and it's largely out of my control. My father is 89 and it turns out, sadly, that he has shot his last game animal.

I tried to make it happen for him, and the lesson reinforced once more is that hunting is not about killing. But we're thankful for a big inventory of stories to sustain us as life goes on.

Check out my September 4 column—read "Dad’s Last Deer Hunt" online in the Jamestown (NY) Gazette.
