POMA Presents Steve Sorensen with Pinnacle Award

June 22, 2018

The Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) presented outdoor writer Steve Sorensen with its highest award at its annual conference on June 13 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Sorensen won the Pinnacle Award from this national organization in the Newspaper/Web category for his article titled “The Nun’s World Famous Deer Hunt,” published at Legendary Whitetails website in December, 2016. He also won the Outstanding Achievement Award for his January 2017 North American Whitetail magazine article titled “Pennsylvania Bookends.”  A total of 12 awards were presented, and Sorensen was the only person to win two of them.

POMA is the only national outdoor writer organization focused on the traditional outdoor sports of hunting, fishing, shooting and trapping. It grants awards for creative work in six categories: magazine, newspaper/web, conservation, book, photography/art, and broadcast. This was Sorensen’s second Pinnacle Award; in 2015 he won in the magazine category. The Pinnacle Awards are sponsored by Mossy Oak.

Sorensen has also won awards this year from the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association and the Mason-Dixon Outdoor Writers Association. He writes for national and regional magazines and contributes to blogs for Legendary Whitetails and Havalon Knives. His newspaper column, The Everyday Hunter®, appears regularly in the Forest Press, the Jamestown Gazette, and the Olean Times Herald.  He also speaks frequently at sportsman’s shows and church-sponsored sportsman’s banquets. “The Pinnacle Award is truly gratifying and humbling,” Sorensen says, “because it puts me in the company of people whose work I’ve admired most of my life. I have been blessed with some great topics that it’s easy to do a good job with (and I’m working on a few more now). I love taking these topics to the readers I’m honored to serve.”

Sorensen lives in Russell, PA with his wife Barbara, and miniature dachshund Remy. For more information about Steve, his writing and his speaking, go to www.EverydayHunter.com. For information about POMA, go to www.ProfessionalOutdoorMedia.org.
